Miss Susannah ~ 6 months

I've been debating on doing this post for quite a while because I really don't know what to say in it. On one hand, I want to be upbeat, positive and share the wonderful things about our happy precious little girl. On the other hand, I feel like I'm hiding information by not sharing about the struggles we've had with her these past three months with her weight. Here we go....we went for her six month checkup a couple of weeks ago and she received a fair report. She weighed 11lbs 4 oz and was 22 1/2 inches long. The doctor has been monitoring her weight since she turned four months old. She really hasn't gained since she was three months and they (pediatrician/therapist/gastro specialist) really have no clue of what is going on with her. At first, Robert and I just thought she was going through an awkward growing spurt, but now it is a little worrisome that she isn't gaining weight. We'll just keep praying for an answer and trusting the Lord to guide us in this manner. She did get more shots and handled them like a champ, but someone else panicked the whole time. Jeremiah is so protective of Susannah....he pleaded with us and begged us not to let her get shots.

If you look at Susannah, you would see a happy, sweet face that lights up the room and her personality has changed drastically in the past month. She no longer cries all the time....yeah!!! She loves playing with her toys, babbling with Jeremiah and cuddling with mommy/daddy. She is an amazing kid and a true blessing from God. I started this blog years ago to be able to document events that happen in our life and so family can keep up with the happenings in our life. I share these details for informational purposes and not for pity. Yeah, it is hard raising two children with special medical issues, but I try to look at the positive side of the situation and remember that God will never give us more than we can handle. All in all, I have been blessed with two healthy children that may need special medical attention from time to time, but thankfully aren't facing any major medical issues.

Things I am doing at six months:
  • I am sleeping through the night and get up between 6 & 7 in the morning.
  • I don't like sitting in much of anything, but love to play on the floor.
  • I love playing with toys and will put anything in my mouth. I'm teething and drooling on everything, but no sign of a tooth yet.
  • I still take a morning and afternoon nap.
  • I enjoy cooing, babbling and talking to anyone that will listen. I am starting to make sounds similar to dada, but not quite there yet.
  • I love to smile and laugh. I have the biggest grin when my mom, dad, or brother talks to me.
  • I still have good head control, but still working on sitting up.
  • My mom is really happy that I have finally started liking my car seat. I don't cry anymore while we are traveling to church or around town shopping.
  • Still wearing 0-3 months clothes, newborn pants, and size 1 diapers.
  • Loves bath time and can't get enough of it.

Jeremiah is FOUR!!

It happened over a month ago, but my little boy is now four. We started off the week long festivities with a Dr. Seuss themed birthday party for friends at a local park in Highland. As you can see in the pictures, Robert was Cat in the Hat and the kids were Thing 1 & Thing 2. The birthday boy started weeks before the party asking for a Cat in the Hat cake and we even made some gluten free Thing 1 & 2 cupcakes for dad. It's amazing the party food ideas you can find on pinterest for themed parties. We had top hat skewers (strawberries&marshmallows), poodles noodles (pasta salad), cheese trees (broccoli/cauliflower/cheese), one fish, two fish (goldfish crackers) and dogs on a log (hot dogs). Jeremiah had a wonderful time at the party playing with his friends and we enjoyed celebrating the fourth birthday of a sweet boy.

Happy birthday, Jeremiah!!

I think the highlight of the birthday week was picking up paw-paw and maw-maw at the train station. My parents arrived on Monday morning and visited with the birthday boy until Thursday. We had another party with them and this time it was all about Thomas the train. If you haven't been around Jeremiah in the past year or so, he has developed a deep love for trains.

Peaches, bath time and art

Even though there wasn't a great peach season this year, we were able to join some friends from church for a day of picking peaches, having a picnic and some fun in the play area. This was our first time to go to an orchard and pick some peaches. They were so delicious and we were able to get enough to can some for the winter. It was pretty warm the day we went, but were able to find a nice shade for our picnic (we even had peaches for dessert). The kids had a great time playing the playground area and visiting with the animals. They had rabbits, peacocks and chickens.  It was a great day and I am already looking forward to peach season next year!!

I am posting a few additional pictures of Susannah after a bath. She really enjoys her bath time and we are happy about that fact. I'm also posting some pictures from Jeremiah's art project. He made an ice cream cone during one of the library story times this summer. I think it is a little ironic he had so much fun making it since he will not even take one bite of ice cream.

Susannah.....Four Months

Yeah, yeah....I know....it's been a while since my last post. Susannah is actually five months now, but I'm going to try to catch up first and then post about what she is doing now. I don't even know where to start with Susannah...to sum it up, she is a totally different child and nothing like her brother. I would say she is a happy, strong-willed child that cries an awful lot. We went to the doctor for her four month checkup and she received a good report. She weighed 11 lbs. 4 oz. and measured 22 inches in length. She received her second set of shots and did very well with them.

Things I am doing at four months:

  • I am sleeping between 6-8 hours at night and may/may not get up once a night to eat.
  • I'll sit in my bouncer if they make me, but I dislike my swing. I love being on my belly and having someone play with me on the floor.
  • I love looking at people, dangling toys and books with bright pictures. I get excited when my mom, dad, or Jeremiah walks in a room and starts talking to me.
  • I still take a morning and afternoon nap.
  • I love to coo and make noises!
  • I have finally started smiling when people I know talk to me and play with me.
  • I have good head control while laying on the floor. I can keep my head balanced sitting up while someone is holding me still, but not if I'm sitting up in a bumbo seat.
  • I still cry from time to time in the car seat, but I did, finally, start taking a few naps in the car seat. My parents thought I would never sleep in the car, but I've started doing it on some occasions when I am really tired.
  • I wear 0-3 months clothes in everything, but pants. I still wear newborn pants and size one diapers.
  • I still love my bath time!!

MS Trip in July

We were able to make a trip down at the end of June to spend a few days visiting family. My dad made the trip up to Illinois to pick up myself and the kids. When Jeremiah was Susannah's age, he was a wonderful car rider and you hardly ever knew he was in the car. However, Susannah makes her presence known and usually not in a good way. She doesn't like her seat, she hates to sleep in the car and would just rather be laying on a blanket on her belly. I'm hoping (and praying) that the older she gets she will tolerate a car ride.

We had a great time visiting everyone and Jeremiah loved being able to play with his cousins. Susannah enjoyed laying on her blanket and showing everyone how she could hold her head up. We took the kids to a water spray park in Brookhaven one morning and Jeremiah had fun. I had to walk with him out in the water first, but once he started getting wet he had a blast. Robert came down on the 4th of July, since he had off work, to pick us up. We all survived the car ride back home and look forward to our next visit in September.

Around the House in June

I'm posting some random pictures I took of the kids around the house in June. I can never say this enough, but I love that I'm able to stay home with my kids on a daily basis to watch them grow. They are a true blessing and gift from God.

Jeremiah loving on his baby sister. He's a great big brother.

He loves his train engineer apron, gloves and hat. I

A Day at the Park

I know, I know...it's been two months since my last post. All I can say is keeping up with two kids is keeping me busy. We were able to go to the park sometime at the end of May and we had a great time. The weather was so nice and made for a pleasant day outside. Jeremiah loves playing baseball, so our first task of the afternoon was a game with dad. They had a great time pitching, hitting and running.

Jeremiah has some sweet friends in Mississippi that gave him the coolest Thomas the Train bubble blower. Our second task of the day was to try out his new bubble blower and even daddy joined in on the fun.

Susannah survived her first visit to the park that day. I did manage to get a few pictures of her hanging out watching her big brother have fun.

Taking it easy

You can tell by the look on Jeremiah's face
that he really didn't want to take this picture.
